Future ultrabooks will be able to wirelessly charge phones

September 1, 2012

Intel announced that Integrated Device Technology will enable future Ultrabook devices to charge phones without using a cable. According to the new Wireless Charging Technology (WCT) by Intel, all you have to do is place your phone close to a WCT-enabled ultrabook with WCT detection software running and the phone will start charging up.

According to Intel, if you leave your phone for about an hour charging via Ultrabook, it’s enough to “make it through the afternoon”.
However, Intel said they don’t know yet when the product will be available for consumers.
