Doctors in the UK are now prescribing books to treat depression

According to a new program that launched in the United Kingdom this June, if you suffer from mild to moderate depression your treatment might not be pills, but books. You get the title of a book scribbled on a prescription pad which you then take to your local library and receive the book instead.

Some of the titles are “Overcoming Depression,” “Mind Over Mood,” or “The Feeling Good Handbook,” but depression isn’t the only condition treated this way.

Other titles endorsed by the National Health Service include “Break Free from OCD,” “Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway,” “Getting Better Bit(e) by Bit(e),” and “How to Stop Worrying.”
